DescriptionLocationInstructors Perceptions and assumptions of Black culture and Black history by the dominant narratives in textbooks and society can skew self-identification, self-love, and self-confidence. Rashad will be using Black History to talk about courage, empowerment and resiliency in the Black community. Using the Ancestors content to express the importance of using Black History to educate, motivate, inspire, and encourage students and communities; Rashad will highlight prominent public figures from the Black community, their stories, and celebrate their fight for justice and equity. There are so many lessons and nuggets that have been left for society and the Black Community that can ignite us to continue to grow in excellence as one. Zoom Zoomzoom link will be sent out via email the morning of the event Map & Directions Rashad Norris Rashad is currently the Director of Community Engagement at Highline College and has led teams and developed programs that created sustainable interpersonal relationships. It was in college where he realized just how much Race Matters, having read Dr. Cornell West, and introduced to the social justice/anti-racist movement. He began to re-educate himself around Black history, America's history and history of inequities and injustices among black, LGBTQ, indigenous and latinx communities. This gained knowledge gave him a deep curiosity and prompted action towards having authentic conversation about our national climate around racial inequities and racial discrimination practices. As a strategic leader and an anti-racist system re-builder, He believes it is important to improve the learning networks for our communities of color and (PWI) predominantly white institutions operating with racial injustice practices. The scholarship of Dr. Jeffrey M.R. Duncan-Andrade, "What a Coach can Teach a Teacher" Right has been his guide in dismantling racial inequities in schools and community organizations.
