His entrepreneurial spirit led him to become a mortgage broker in 1997. From 1997 until he and his wife relocated in 2015 from California to Woodinville, WA; Smit worked for numerous brokers and banks before starting his own brokerage company in 2003 called Golden Bear Financial Corporation. As an adjunct real estate instructor at Diablo Valley College in the Bay Area, Smit taught Real Estate Property Management and Real Estate Finance - both CA Dept of Real Estate certified courses. Currently Smit teaches N.A.R. Designation courses SRES, SRS, ABR AND RENE. He too has written and teaches numerous WA Continuing education classes. Is passionate about BBQ, riding bikes and walking his dog Bailey at 5:30am every day.
